About the event

Eric Sanderson, BSc (Hons), Dip Ost, MSc, in this very exciting and original course: Introduction to Osteopathic Neurology, Strategies to Address Degenerative Changes to the Nervous System, will give you a comprehensive introduction to the examination of the Central Nervous System in an osteopathic context, not from the viewpoint of examining for pathologies, but to detect imbalances and weaknesses in the various sub-systems of the Central Nervous System.

TOTAL CEUs EARNED : 28h.

TEACHER

Eric Sanderson, BSc. (Hons), Dip. Ost., MSc.

COURSE TYPE

4-day Master Class

TARGET AUDIENCE

Graduated Osteopaths

SKILLS THAT WILL BE ACQUIRED

Participants will learn how to do a basic neural exam based on the principals of detecting imbalances. Students will be able to perform simple interventions that are efficient because of their subtlety and the efficiency of the evaluation process.

COURSE PROGRAM

Day 1

AM. An overview of the Nervous System and it’s role in ‘disease’. Start at 9am, coffee break at 11am. Lunch at 1:15.

PM. The neuroanatomy and neurophysiology of the CNS. Coffee break at 4:15, completion at 5:30.

Day 2

AM. Introduction to the neurological exam. Start at 9am, coffee break at 11am. Lunch at 1:15.

PM. Concepts of interventions based on the neurological exam process. Coffee break at 4:15, completion at 5:30.

Day 3

AM. Discussion on the 3 major subsystems, the basal ganglia, the cerebellum and the limbic system. Start at 9am, coffee break at 11am. Lunch at 1:15.

PM. Cortext and cortical regions. The neurology of movement, and eye movements. Coffee break at 4:15, completion at 5:30.

Day 4

AM. Hierarchy of intervention, and strategies on intervention. Start at 9am, coffee break at 11am. Lunch at 1:15.

PM. Osteopathic techniques in a neurological context. Coffee break at 4:15, completion at 5:30.

SPECIFIC EQUIPMENT

Participants should expect to do the exam and some of the interventions in their undergarments. Students should bring a pinwheel, reflex hammer, tuning fork, stethoscope, pulse oximeter.

LEARNING METHODS

Lecture, discussion, a few videos for observation, practical demonstration and practical labs.
