About the event

Eric Sanderson, BSc (Hons), Dip Ost, MSc, will be back to present, for the first time in Nov Scotia, this very orginal and evidence-based course : Osteopathic Visceral Assessment From a Complexity Paradigm that involves a methodology for the positional assessment of the abdominal organs, which begins with a method to determine which organ system should be assessed, and follows with organ localization and lastly involves verification using a diagnostic ultrasound.

SKILLS THAT WILL BE ACQUIRED

By the end of the course the participant will have a way of determining which organ system they should examine, and how to accurately locate and determine the shape of, the liver, the stomach, the head of the pancreas, the spleen, the caecum, colic angles, and kidneys.

COURSE PROGRAM

Day 1

AM. Introduction. Start at 9am, coffee break at 11am. Lunch at 1:15.

PM. 2:15 start Discussion on the method to determine the visceral system one should examine more closely. Coffee break at 4:15, completion at 5:30.

Day 2

AM. Concepts of localization. Start at 9am, coffee break at 11am. Lunch at 1:15.

PM. Assessing autonomics as factors to be considered in organ assessment. Coffee break at 4:15, completion at 5:30.

Day 3.

AM. Anatomical Review from an osteopathic perspective. Start at 9am, coffee break at 11am. Lunch at 1:15.

PM. Anatomical review from a non-osteopathic perspective. Coffee break at 4:15, completion at 5:30.

Day 4

AM. Final discussion of specific localization of abdominal organs and viscera. Start at 9am, coffee break at 11am. Lunch at 1:15.

PM. Ultrasound verification. Coffee break at 4:15, completion at 5:30.

SPECIFIC EQUIPMENT

Participants should be prepared to do practical material in their undergarments and to dress appropriately. Each participant should bring their own reflex hammer, pin wheel, stethoscope, pulse oximeter, and blood pressure cuff.

LEARNING METHODS

The methods used, include, diagnostic aids, lecture, group discussion, practical instruction or labs, ultrasound verification.
